The Final Crown Vic is Now Over 3 Years Old.

A few weeks ago a poster was passed around various Panther Platform instagrams stating "9/15/2011 - end of an era" because supposedly that is the day the last Crown Victoria rolled off the line.

I'm not sure how true that it is, buy assuming conservatively that fleet vehicles get driven 25,000 miles a year, that final 'Vic is well on its way to exceeding the mileage limits some fleets have (which, admittedly, has increased in recent years).

This begs the question. Aside from what I will assume will be a tiny minority of forces that maintains and refuses to give up their loyal Crown Victorias, how long will it take for America to stop assuming that a white CV is automatically an undercover cop?

Additionally, when will the word "police car" begin to be associated with a different vehicle? I know that just about everyone, including me, who is too young to have experienced Caprice (80s/90s) police vehicles automatically assimilates the phrase 'cop car' with 'Crown Victoria'. Will the upcoming generation make that association with Dodge Chargers?

Just the ponderings of a Panther owner. My 2007 Grand Marquis, despite being old man beige, occasionally holds up traffic on highways because my windows are tinted dark and people are afraid to pass me.

Not sure what the mileage of said final CV is, either. Especially since the last one went to Saudi Arabia, apparently.

Who knows what it's been used for since it arrived there. Could be out showing off on two wheels on some Saudi Arabian highway, for all we know.

It feels like it's been longer, it hasn't though. But I'll genuinely miss these cars. I can't imagine NYC without them as taxis.

You need to get a set of steelies and that little side light thing actual cop cars have for max effect.

Indeed. I would actually love a set of steelies because one of my stock alloys is bent.

Last I heard it was still at Al Jazeera Ford. They didn't sell it cause they know what it is. If anyone has Carfax, run the VIN and see what it says. 2fabp7cw8cx104292

I have never been to New York, but mine does a great job ferrying drunks home after a hard night of partying. I dd all the time because the drunkards in question buy me dinner.

You could then upgrade to a black Taurus with tints and steelies. And that interceptor grill. Then maybe people will stop thinking you're a cop!

Spotlight. The word you're looking for is spotlight.

Nah, I made a lifetime commitment when I bought my Mercury. When her Modular 4.6 is old and tired, paint chipped and faded, she's going to get a Coyote 5.0, Kona blue paint and some sort of Mustang style set of wheels.

At some point in my life, I want to own a Crown Vic. Maybe if I ever visit the US for a period of time longer than a month, I'll buy one to have a run around...

I remember building and shipping the last parts. Was a sad day. I remember sneaking out around silos and oddly assembled additions for a smoke with the guys from IQ, and marvelling at the train tracks still in the assemby area where the frames used to come off. The front office looked like the 70s.

I also remember about a short while after, Ford had a big billboard advertising the new cruiser made elsewhere, in the next City down the road. Where quite a few of the recently unemployed lived. It wasn't up for long...

I grew up in England and the last car my parents had when we lived there was a 1.0L Hyundai Atoz. In my years of driving here in the U.S. I've had plenty of small, 4-cylinder Japanese/Korean/European cars, never did I fall in love with a car until I got my Panther. I don't understand why a sensible and physically small Brit like myself fell in love with a land barge, but I vowed a couple months after buying it that I would never, ever sell it. It would be as if I were divorcing from the woman of my dreams.

Reading this made me feel miserable. Back in 2011 I never would have considered in a million years owning such a big, slow vehicle. Look at me now, hopelessly in love with my land yacht.

We supplied the new one and Brampton so we covered everything already. But itq was the neighborhood car plant. An hour from my house, work, everywhere.

Our NYC Crown Vic taxis go about 70,000 miles a year, which means the newest in the fleet are over 200K. I predict more collapsed suspensions.

In the interest of relevance, I will say that a current gen Charger pulled onto the freeway in front of me late last night and I instinctively slowed down. Just sayin....
